Where did the summer
It seems like just last week we were together at the 9th
Annual BBQ on the Bay Tech Expo. (Click the image at right to flash back with a brief video!)
It’s hard to believe we’re almost "Back to School”, but the
good news is your Tech Council been busy all summer long – adding value and
lining up top-notch opportunities to connect in the coming season.
To facilitate our strategic growth the CRTC had a Board Retreat in July and CRTC staff attended the Tech Councils of North America (TECNA) conference in Minneapolis in the first week of August. Each of these engagements sparked loads of new ideas and initiatives to add value for CRTC membership in the coming weeks and months.
On a very sad note – we were heartbroken to learn that CRTC founder Steven W. Oxman passed away very recently. Steve founded the CRTC as the Anne Arundel High Technology Council in 1992 and we remain profoundly grateful for the legacy he's left in the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council. His laser focus on our purpose and mission will not be forgotten. We were so very fortunate to celebrate his leadership during our 20th Anniversary year in 2012. The photo at right is of Steve accepting the Founders Award at the CRTC BBQ on the Bay 2012. The CRTC is working to develop a STEM scholarship to award in Steve's memory in conjunction with the Future Innovator Award at the TechAwards. Stay tuned for more on that.
If there's one thing Steve taught us about the CRTC, it's that "the events are great, but CRTC Membership is not just about the events." Membership with the organization is about driving opportunities for local technology companies every day – driving partnership, driving thought leadership, providing exposure and educating the greater community about the importance of the local technology industry.
Here are just a handful of the opportunities CRTC Membership offers outside of the program of events:

Quite apart from the ongoing program of events, the CRTC offers several Forum Groups focused on specific areas of interest including B2G, Cyber, Emerging Tech, Workforce Development, Women in Tech, Social Media Marketing and Public Policy. Some groups meet every month while some meet quarterly and/or on the phone. All deliver valuable connections and education in targeted areas of technology development. Here are a couple of spotlights on recent developments with two of the Forums:
- Commercial Cyber Forum – The Cyber Forum met throughout the summer to define their focus and mission. They've emerged with a laser focus on driving Commercial Cyber opportunities in the region. They will offer three types of programs each quarter - one open Forum meeting and two meeting exclusively for technology companies. Click here to join the Commercial Cyber Forum Group and click here to attend the Open Forum meeting scheduled for 9/4. Sponsorships are now available for all Cyber Forum meetings. Contact us for more information.
- Public Policy Forum – CRTC’s Public Policy Forum (PPF) functions as an educational and advocacy arm of the CRTC, promoting pro-growth policies concerning state programs in support of its mission to advance Maryland’s position as a favorable state for the creation and growth of technology companies. The CRTC-PPF organizes event-driven and online forums for discussion to advance dialogue and advocacy of public policy issues that impact the membership of the organization.
