What I wish I had known...when I was an entrepreneur

By Steven Oxman
IT Division, HW Department Head
Naval Center for Cost Analysis
Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Cost and Economics)
The Pentagon

We are honored to welcome the founder of the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council for this unique evening event. In 1992 Steve founded the CRTC as the Anne Arundel County High Tech Council. At the time he was running his own company. Since then he's gone to work at The Pentagon and he has some unique insights to share with CRTC companies looking to do business with the Government.

In Steve's words:

"For high technology businesses that work with or wish to work with the Government, and more to the point, the Department of Defense, there are things the Government is truly interested in (like CMMI for Software Developers) and there are things the Government is far less interested in (like ISO-9000 for Software Developers).  Some entrepreneurs and businesses, or perhaps their business developers, might get all of these points.  But I know that I did not get all of these points, and I was a DOD Civil Servant before I had my own firm.  So let's look at things that I know now that I did not know when I ran my own firm."

Note: There will be a pre-event "pay your own way" Happy Hour from 5:00-6:00 at Carpaccio and light fare available during the seminar courtesy of Mackenzie Commercial. Carpaccio is located on the first level at 1 Park Place. The program will take place on the 4th floor in Suite 475. Check-in begins at 6:00p and the program will start at 6:30p
