The CRTC welcomes Elliot Schlanger as the featured speaker at the December Public Policy Meeting.  Mr. Schlanger is the Director of Cybersecurity and Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Maryland.

About Mr. Schlanger:
Mr. Elliot Schlanger is the Director of Cybersecurity and Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Maryland and is responsible for statewide cyber resilience.  Specifically, Mr. Schlanger leads enterprise wide cybersecurity governance, policy creation and compliance, threat monitoring, risk assessment and mitigation, cyber cultural enhancement and cyber incident response. 

Previously, Mr. Schlanger served as the State of Maryland’s first-ever Secretary of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer responsible for the creation and management of a new cabinet level Information Technology department to oversee enterprise IT policies, procurement, contract management, consolidated operations and major project execution. 

Prior to re-joining the Governor Martin O’Malley team, Mr. Schlanger was the founding principal and chief technology engineer for Metrix Technology Engineering, LLC, a management and technology consulting company that specializes in government performance management and customer relationship management.

Mr. Schlanger also served as Chief Information Officer for the City of Baltimore.  Under his tenure, Elliot developed the technology behind the internationally acclaimed CitiStat program and led the successful execution of many other model projects such as 3-1-1, CitiTrack CRM, and one of the largest city-wide video surveillance systems.  On behalf of the City of Baltimore, Mr. Schlanger received numerous awards including the coveted Gartner CRM Excellence Award and a CIO 100 Award from CIO Magazine.

Additionally Mr. Schlanger served as the Divisional Chief Information Officer for the $3 billion, 15,000 employee, world-class engineering & construction unit of the Raytheon Company. 

Elliot holds an undergraduate chemical engineering degree from the University of Delaware and a master of business administration degree from the University of Miami
