AACC’s Public Safety and Police Department Reaccredited

This Marks Second Time for Honor by International Law Enforcement Group
Anne Arundel Community College’s Department of Public Safety and Police received a certificate for reaccreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators at the IACLEA’s national conference this summer in Nashville, Tenn.
The department’s second reaccreditation is for four years and demonstrates that the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services meet state-of-the-art standards. AACC’s department was the first community college public safety agency in the nation to achieve the international accreditation in 2008. The reaccreditation recognizes the department’s use of best practices in campus law enforcement. To become accredited, the department had to show compliance with 210 applicable standards.
Gary Lyle, Chief of Police and director of the department, said accreditation is a way to enhance public safety within an educational setting by incorporating the best practices that complement those used by other public safety agencies. Going through the process also supports continuous organizational development and promotes professionalism as a key value in the department.
The department has 32 officers and serves the Arnold campus and off-campus-classroom buildings at Arundel Mills and the Center for Cyber and Professional Training in Hanover and at the Glen Burnie Town Center.
